How do you picture your ideal summer? Is it spent lounging about the Davis, CA, rentals with nothing to do? While this could perhaps be an enchanting way to pass the time for some, we’re sure many more of you could stand to have a bit of excitement in-between all that rest and relaxation.

For that, the City of Davis provides, by way of their diverse summer recreational activities. We’re not just talking summer camps for kids, either. As for the available programs, you’ll find those listed in the Rec Guide. We’ll cover a few here, and in the interest of relevancy, limit our focus to the adult-specific options.

    • Classes and Programs for Adults

Since these are adult-oriented classes, the focus is more on sports and fitness than the generic “camp” style activities the city offers for youth and teens. With the Adult Fitness Flex Pass, you have a “drop-in option” for many of the fitness classes the City of Davis offers throughout the summer, including Daybreak Yoga, PM Aerobics, Sunrise Step Tone & Stretch, and Yoga Meditation.

The class price structuring is as follows:

    • $10 for 1 class

    • $45 for 5 classes

    • $85 for 10 classes

    • $155 for 20 classes

Thankfully, the Flex Passes have no expiration date. They’re non-transferable, though, so no buying a pass and sending your buddies to class to take your place. As for the class schedule:

Daybreak Yoga takes place at the Senior Center, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6:00AM to 7:00AM. The class is designed as a start to the day, leading you and your classmates through a combination of stretching and breathing, followed by yoga poses and Asanas for balance, alignment, and improved symmetry.

PM Aerobics, which also takes place at the Senior Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6:30AM to 7:30AM, is designed to enhance general health and wellness. You’ll complete a routine of cardiovascular aerobics, weight training, step workouts, and a cool down/relaxation session.

Sunrise Step Tone & Stretch is the Senior Center’s

Monday/Wednesday/Friday class, which takes place from 6:00AM to 7:00AM. This is a more subdued workout, featuring stretches, aerobic cardiovascular cross-training, and a cool down/relaxation period.

Yoga & Meditation for Stress Relief is a once-weekly offering, taking place on Mondays from 5:30PM to 6:30PM. This class uses hatha yoga, yoga nindra, and mindfulness/meditation practices to help you quell anxiety and achieve a “deep and satisfying experience of relaxation and well-being.”

Alternatively, you could try heading to adult drop-in sessions at the Comunnity Gym, which feature both Basketball and Volleyball. Basketball takes place Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30PM, with each session costing $5 per person per night. Volleyball takes place Wednesday from 8:00PM to 11:00PM and Sunday from 4:00PM to 7:00PM, with the sessions costing $7 per person per night.

If you desire sports with more structure, the city is also putting on an Adult Summer Softball league, which starts June 18th and lasts a full nine-game season over the summer months. There are various levels of competition for men’s and coed teams.

There’s a Softball Tournament taking place on July 4th at Playfields Park, wherein you can register your team for a one-day, elimination style tournament and try to claim the title of champion. There’s a $30 registration fee, and registration for this event closes on June 27th at 5:00PM.
