Here’s How You Can Ring in the New Year Davis Style
2019 is almost here, and if you’re the celebratory type, you’re going to want to get in on all of the holiday partying action. Around the West Village housing complexes, Davis, and even nearby Sacramento, there are going to be plenty of opportunities to hit the town and ring in the New Year with style. We’ve rounded up some of the best for you here; all you’ve got to do is take a look and see what might interest you most!
Hit the Town and See a Show
The Davis Musical Theatre Company is one of California’s longest-running, year-round, amateur musical theatre companies, having been founded in 1984 by Jan and Steve Isaacson. As such, they’ve almost always got a great performance to give the public, and New Year’s Eve is no exception.
This December 31st, at 8:00PM, they’ll be putting on a showing of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, based on the classic Victor Hugo novel and supplemented with songs from the legendary Disney animated film (along with a few originals from two of the show’s masterminds, composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz).
This will be a must-see for theatre fans, and a ticket purchase for this event features more than just the show itself. There will be a fully-catered buffet, complete with appetizers, a London Broil Carving Station, grilled chicken breast, pasta marinara, pasta alfredo, salads, cole slaw, rolls, dessert, and more. You’ll also have the chance to enjoy the tunes from a live DJ, down a little champagne or sparkling cider, and take to the dance floor to ring in the New Year.
Have a Laugh as 2019 Comes In
If you prefer New Year’s Eve with a few chuckles, you’ll feel right at home at the Sacramento Punch Line’s Last Laughs New Year’s Eve Countdown Show. As the name suggests, a stacked lineup of comedians will be helping countdown the time until midnight, and be offering up a toast to officially acknowledge that 2019 has arrived.
The show list includes Kris Tinkle, Carlos Rodriguez, Jimmy Earll, Ta Vi, Saul Trujlllo, Alfonso Portela, and Anthony K. Tickets range from $28.00 to $38.00, and in addition to the two drink minimum, you should be aware that all recording devices will be prohibited.
Attend a Fancy Masquerade Ball
Sometimes you just get the urge to do New Year’s Eve with some extra flair, and for that, there are few events better than a mysterious Masquerade Ball. Think of it, the fun masks, the elegant costumes, drinking, dancing — what could be more delightful?
If this is your idea of a good time, you’ll want to check out the Revival Masquerade Ball at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel, going on from 9:00PM to 1:30AM. As you might already know, Revival is the Sawyer’s fantastic rooftop bar, the pinnacle of class and style. For the ball, black-tie attire and a creative costume mask will be highly encouraged, and a willingness to have a good time is a must, as there will be plenty of entertainment to enjoy throughout the night.
Both DJ DM and DJ Chachi will be performing, bringing their turntables and intricate mixes of music that have rocked cities across the globe, from Barcelona to Tokyo and beyond. In addition to the music, you’ll be treated to appetizers, a welcome glass of champagne, and of course access to the open bar, where you can purchase the cocktails, beer, wine, and spirits of you choice as the party rolls on.
Have a Secret-Agent Style New Year’s
If you love the slick aesthetic of James Bond, 007, you’ll definitely enjoy the James Bond New Year’s Eve in Old Sacramento:
“Join the cast of the ever -famous, sell- out, Vampire Ball as we ring in the New Year with James Bond! Shannon McCabe and her Krewe are at it again with the James Bond New Year's Eve Ball in an underground speakeasy, in Old Sacramento, deep under the mysterious streets.”
This costume party, which includes a “spy mission” theme, will start at 6:00PM at Knobs and Knockers on Front Street. And feature several fun events throughout the schedule. There’s a martini make-off at 7:30PM, a DJ set at 8:00PM, fireworks at 9:00PM, raffles at 9:30PM, and of course, the midnight NYE countdown, complete with champagne cake.
Throughout the evening, you’ll be treated to a amazing 1960s aesthetic, with actors portraying your favorite characters from the James Bond mythos. There will also be plenty of thrills and surprises not mentioned on the official schedule of events, so it’s likely to be a fun-filled night you won’t soon forget.
View a Veritable Wonderland in the Sky
If you want to see the sky come alive on New Year’s Eve, then you have to head to the New Year’s Eve Sky Spectacular at the Old Sacramento Waterfront. This display is officially sponsored and produced by the City of Sacramento and Visit sacramento, and will feature an epic, 20-minute long fireworks show, accompanied by live music, food, drinks, and games for everyone to enjoy.
There will be vendors, games, family activities and more going on throughout the area from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. The Golden 1 Stage will also feature the Thunder Cover band from 6:00PM to 10:00PM, as they perform a large library of material, and the Mr. Illusion will also be in attendance, wowing crowds with his magical abilities.
The fireworks will go off at 9:00PM on the dot, and the awe-inspiring display is one you’ll not want to miss!
